We love chairs
Don't ask me why. The simple fact
is that we can't get enough of
these four legged beauties.
For many years, dozens of chairs
have been hidden in our closets,
storage lockers, or isolated corners.
All simply waiting, hoping that
they might return to favor,
or simply be sat upon.
And now that we have a new house,
suddenly we want more.
We have a major shopping list for the house. We need lighting, lots of lighting. And a new, longer dining table. That means our time is spent searching the web, antique shops, decorator boutiques, and every furniture store we can find. All in the hopes of checking another item off our list. And yet...
all we find are chairs.
Boldinin - Portrait of JMWhistler - 1897 |
Ivory painted frames.
Chocolate leather upholstery.
WE DON'T NEED THEM.
John Singer Sargent - Portrait of Lady Agnew - 1892 |
It's distressed green frame upholstered in a hand embroidered Belgian linen.
WE DON'T NEED ONE.
David Ogilvy - 1963 |
Their curvaceous frames upholstered in bold black and white.
ABSOLUTELY NOT!
Fortunately we're not the only ones.
We often come across many
fellow addicts who adore
four legged things
just as much as we do.
Honestly, is that any weirder than
"dog people"?
I don't know whether we need to go to "Chairs Anonymous.
Probably just some simple self control is in order.
Here's one thing I know,
whenever you come to visit us in Lewistown,
you'll be sure to find a fabulous place to sit.
"I would rather sit on a pumpkin
and have it all to myself,
than be crowded on a velvet cushion"
Henry David Thoreau
