Show time
Last week our new First Lady - Melania Trump
unveiled the White House holiday decorations.
Over the top, they immediately garnered many
comments. The majority being quite snarky
and negative. In particular most focused on the
East Wing Colonnade which Melania was shot
parading through. Soon thereafter social media
exploded with funny takes on Melania's journey
to "the dark side" or Narnia. Post some research
I find said critiques unfair at best. Thus believe
it or not I must come to the lady's defense. Long
ago White House holiday decor became akin to
a burlesque show. And trust me... it's a doozy...
As shown to the right - the East Wing
Colonnade connects the main house to
key offices. Based on research Jackie
Kennedy treated this space as purely
utilitarian. However sometime in the
nineties they started to deck said hall.
And as the images that follow show -
things have gotten very complicated.
By the end of the Obama era it had
become an event planners dream. So
if Melania is to be blamed it must be
for continuing the tradition. At times
less is more... so why not stop now?!
Obviously Melania is knows to
not go down the primrose path.
Yet if one looks at the main floor
"Cross Hall" again things are a
bit over the top. If hindsight is
20/20 then we must look back
at former First Lady forays into
the decorative forest primeval.
Past imperfect indicates others
have also been led to slaughter.
